Redwing

It's always nice to photograph the winter Thrushes we get in the UK. Both Redwings and Fieldfares are lovely birds. Here's a few shots from last week of the Redwings.

Winter Thrushes

I have done a few sessions recently photographing Fieldfare and Redwing. I really enjoy working with these colourful species. They can be quite a challenge though, especially the Redwing, which are extremely twitchy. This makes it all the more rewarding when I achieve some good shots. You can tell they are a popular subject, with 137 Fieldfare and 74 Redwing images now on my main website.

Winter Thrushes

I always enjoy photographing the overwintering Redwing and Fieldfare each year.  Already having a large selection of Fieldfare images, it was nice to get some in a different setting. Drinking from a puddle with a grassy bank behind gave the water a lovely green colour, all the more enhanced by the low winter sun.

Winter Thrushes

I awoke on Sunday to see a strange bright light in the sky, I vaguely remembered it as being the sun and had to put aside any festive chores to make the most of this rare occurrence. Wiping the dust off the camera, I headed to a holly tree that was laden with berries and was attracting a lot of Redwing. A few good hours were spent getting some nice seasonal shots. A Fieldfare feeding on fallen apples was a bonus on the way home.

Variety of Species

With the grim weather we have been experiencing over the last few months I have not been able to get stuck in to any of my planned projects.  Apart from the odd reasonable day it has just been a case of going out every time the sun briefly appears, consequently I have ended up with a few shots of a variety of different species.  This post is a collection of some of them.

Brambling

Collared Dove

Coot

Fieldfare

Greenfinch

House Sparrow

Redwing
