Butterflies

After such a wet spring and summer, It's good to see some butterflies around at last. A lot of  Small Tortoiseshells around the north Wirral coast, all in really good condition. They have been a declining species over the last few years, hard to believe yesterday as they were everywhere.

Butterflies

With some warm sunny weather finally here, us photographers can now complain about heat haze. This means taking sharp photographs of birds is almost impossible, except for the cooler conditions at the beginning and end of the day. I usually take advantage of this and spend some time photographing butterflies, dragonflies and insects. A trip out yesterday gave some reasonable results, although I never seem to get the shots I am after of the Orange Tips, they are a tricky species to get right.
