Common Snipe

More waders from my Mallorca trip back in April. This time Common Snipe in some lovely calm blue water. It is very satisfying to be able to photograph the birds in these perfect conditions.

Mallorcan Waders

Back in April I spent a week on the island of Mallorca in Spain. Having been there quite a few times, I had a few species that I wanted to get better shots of. At that time of year you never know what you could find, with migration in full swing from Africa.
I spent quite a bit of time at the S'Albufera Marsh, in the north east of the island. It's a very large reserve with a great amount of birds. No two days are ever the same here, with something different to see on each visit. This post will show some of the wading birds I saw at the reserve.

Iceland Trip - Common Snipe

At the end of May I spent 10 days in Iceland with my friend Richard Steel, photographing birds.  It had been the coldest spring for many years there, up until a week before we went there was still lots of snow around. It was a little warmer while we were there, on average, around 4.5 degrees, but with a constant strong wind (usually northerly) it did feel cold. Richard will be doing blog posts on the daily experiences, whereas I will be be posting here by species, as I add them to my website.  This may take a few months as I came back with 6000 images, this is a lot for me as I am very selective when taking shots.
The first species is the Common Snipe.  Almost everywhere we went their calls and sound of their display flight could be heard, they were possibly the most common bird of the trip.  We even had to avoid running over them on the roads.  They pose singing from posts, giving great photo opportunities. Here's a selection of them.

My Scottish Trip - Birds on Posts

I have just returned from three weeks in Scotland. Two were spent on the very windy Outer Hebrides and the third was in Speyside. I will be posting a few images of the many species I photographed over the coming weeks, as I add them to my main site. To start off I thought I would show some of the birds perching on posts, this is a common sight on the Hebrides as there are plenty of posts and not many trees.
